This is Michael Krasner. Thank you for an excellent talk. I’m wondering if you would say more about the rejection of expertise and authority. It seems to me there is a lot of emotional satisfaction in this—release of the irritation and resentment of having to take orders from “experts” and “elites” when you feel they look down on you. Something similar seems to have happened around political correctness.

What do you think of the impact of this administration’s language? The American Jobs Plan, The Recovery Act- there is obviously an effort to use simple language to convey the effect’s of the legislation. Do you think this will have an impact?

Thank you Dr. Nero. Your talk was very informative and helpful. I’m grateful for your depth of knowledge and perspective around this issue. You helped deepen my understanding of the narrative both with climate change and many other issues in our current politics. Thank you.
